I have to admit that I enjoy reading bad writing just as much as I enjoy reading really awesome writing, mostly because it gives me a nice sense of 'at least I know the difference, so I must be doing something right'.

While vying for the about.com job (STILL, GODDAMMIT!), I decided to check out the about.com comic book guy, since we'd likely be brethren.

Here he is. I don't feel bad linking to him because the more traffic he gets, the more he gets paid. I've even left comments to support the blog.

It's still hard to get through a sentence there.

Today : Day off.

Steven Page, lovable frontman from Barenaked Ladies, has been arrested in Schenectady for cocaine possession. There goes my high school innocence.

I bought 2 scratch-off tickets today while I was buying lunch, $1 each. I won both of them, for a total of $3. I just need to do that a MILLION more times.

Last time, I bought 3 tickets because all I had was a $5 and won all of my money back on 2 of the tickets.

I got a box from Raven today - we're sending the same box back and forth and decorating it a little more each time. It had wind-up sushi, some trading cards, and a journal that we can both write in.

The sushi guy at the A&P and I have a thing going. He gives me free stuff all of the time - sample rolls that he's experimenting with, and today was a seaweed salad with a big ol 'FREE' sticker slapped onto it. Usually, I have to eat the sushi rolls really quick as I'm walking around, so that I don't have to explain it to the cashier at the self check-out. And usually, they're spicy, so I get all sweaty and red-faced anyhow.

My Sgt. Hatred shirt arrived in the mail today, but my Billy Quizboy shirt is nowhere to be found. I don't see any on eBay yet, so I assume that they're just shipping out of order. I hope.

Got the last 3 seasons of X-File, the new Juxtapoz, and was excited to see that the last book of Y : The Last man is finally out. I forsee an afternoon of reading it excitedly, and napping, and then getting to work on my new comic (which I'm actually getting really excited about again), and then maybe writing a review of the new how-to-do-comics-book, 'Drawing Words & Writing Pictures', even if Jessica Abel was unfriendly to me at last year's MOCCA. No one could have POSSIBLY been less friendly than Tara MacPherson at this year's MOCCA. You're not THAT great, girl.

I'm getting pretty good at LUCK - I wonder if I could figure out how to predict.

The things that go up in value MOST seem to be things that people initially think are 'too much money' or 'too complicated to get'. Give it 6 months and some kind of regret and / or awareness of the item will set in, and it'll double (or in some of these cases, octuple) in value. Also, I tend to get things that are just NEAT - genuine neatness and quality help.

Now, I need to figure out how to PART with these things.

Before bed last night, I drew a tiny Batman on a tiny canvas, spontaneously. I painted him this morning, and I think that I managed to get the energy that I LOVE from my sketching into a final mini-painting. You can never capture the same line twice, and while thinking right onto the canvas doesn't always work, it clicked.

And then I did a tiny Aquaman, which I think worked even better. I feel like I can get just as many details into a 3" x 3" canvas as I can into a 2' x 2', and with a lot more focus. Some things deserve to be epic. I think that doing superheroes as a decidedly anti-epic thing is potentially SMART.

Will post images later.

Plus, I'm having another overnight with Brooklyn Girl this Saturday, after my assigned CQ reporting stuff.

Wii Fit Update

So, I've been doing Wii Fit for about 30 minutes every day. Not even the goofy, non-aerobic balance games - I'm talking push-ups and running and stuff. Yeah, I missed yesterday because I didn't want to get sweaty before school, and by the time I got home, I had noplace to use it - but every other day has been active. This isn't gonna be one of those 'bored of it after a week' things, because it started OUT boring. That's not the point.

I must have started out on a really great day, because while overweight, it felt manageable. By day 2, my weight had somehow increased a billionfold. I think I'm eating cats in my sleep or something. Ever since then, for the past week or so, it's bee a slow climb back down to my initial weight. While it's not a defeat, the charts and graphs seem to mock me.

What I am surprised at, and I don't know if this is a machination of Nintendo or not, is that my weight WILL change fractionally over the course of 30 minutes of exercise. While I started out a tiny bit over the weight of Monday, I finished up a tiny bit under. I remain unconvinced that the human body works like this, especially over the course of 30 minutes, but it's been eerily consistent.

I know that it could be worse, but I'm not happy with my weight. I'm overweight for my height and age, even if it's not a defining chracteristic of me. I leave that honor to the receding hairline and the occasionally wandering eye. I overeat because I enjoy tasting things, even if I hate the process of eating. I'm a sensual person. I paint and sing (when no one's around) and eat and enjoy the little things I can while trying to manage the many things I can't. And half of me is in this 'you only live once!' mindset, and the other half is 'yeah, but for how long, fatty?'

Being single doesn't exactly help either, and I could use the self-confidence. But I AM feeling better about myself - breaking away from the sedentary habits of writing and painting and driving and data entry, which is about 95% of my life.

Wii Fit, don't fail me now. And potato chips, back the fuck off.

Wii Fit : Day 1

I decided that I should keep track of my stats here, since public humiliation is a very motivational thing.

This morning, when I calibrated the Wii Fit to my own stats, it told me that I was overweight, but very strong & had good balance. My Wii Fit Age was 46-ish.

After an hour of playing (some this morning, some after work), it had calculated that I was 1.5 pounds lighter by the end of the day, and my Wii Fit age was now my actual age - a good sign.

So, while I'm not as fit as I'd like to LOOK, everything that's under the first layer is functioning very well. It is also impossible to do yoga with an overactive 8-year old milling around.

I just thought I'd point this out. When I last looked, this was only DL-able on Amazon and not buyable in a hard copy. Until I find it, THERE IS DOWNLOAD.

This is the new frontier of music.

The inclusion of Aimee Man and The Shins are beautiful things.

Newsletter subscribers got 5 bonus songs.

PS : Who the hell is 'A To Z'? I can't find anything about them anywhere, but I really dig their sound. Music fans, inform me! I'm lookin' at you, Natalia!

PPS : How am I the #2 Google search result for this now? I'd just like to point out that I didn't upload the album - I just stumbled across it. DON'T SUE ME. I'M LOOKING FOR THE HARD COPY!
